Getting started

Última actualización:

PublicFireSafety is where your agency publishes its burning rules. Residents see them on BeforeYouBurn, in the app, by text message and in the badges on your website. You set the rules; we combine them with every other agency that covers the same place and show residents one answer.

There is no password. Go to the sign-in page, enter the email or mobile number your administrator added for you, and type the 6-digit code we send. Your access comes from the roles your organization gave you (see Team and roles).

Two ways to work

  • Status Control is the quick screen for closing and reopening burning, posting a notice or scheduling a change. It works on a phone and needs no JavaScript. Status Controllers use only this screen. See Status Control.
  • The agency workspace holds everything else: zones, seasons, registrations, badges, feeds and your team. What you see depends on your role and your plan.

Set up checklist

  1. Check your zones. Each zone is an area with a status. Make sure your boundaries are right and each zone has the status you intend. See Zones.
  2. Set your seasons. For seasonal zones, confirm the open windows. A seasonal zone with no season is closed. See Seasons.
  3. Name your response agency and contacts. Residents see the contact of the agency that responds to fires at their location.
  4. Add your team. Give each person the role they need. See Team and roles.
  5. Add a badge to your website so residents see your status there. See Badges.

Key ideas

  • One answer per place. Every agency that covers a point takes part. If any of them does not allow burning, the answer is "Burning is not allowed". "Allowed" needs every agency to allow it.
  • Four answers. Residents see Burning is allowed, Burning is not allowed, Contact the agency before burning, or Status unknown. Anything not set up shows as Status unknown, never as allowed.
  • PFS is not a burn authority. We never open or close burning on our own. Your actions are recorded as taken on your agency's authority.
  • Registration is not permission. Residents register burns so you know about them; whether they may burn is always the live status.
