Burn seasons

Last updated:

A seasonal zone is open only inside its season windows. Outside them, residents see "Burning is not allowed".

How windows work

  • A window has a start and an end date, month and day, for example October 15 to June 15.
  • Windows are inclusive: open from 00:00 on the first day to 23:59 on the last day.
  • Times are in your agency's timezone. Change the timezone and every zone follows it.
  • A window may cross the new year, for example November 1 to March 31. It applies from November through March.
  • A zone can have several windows.

A zone with no season is closed

If a seasonal zone has no windows, burning is not allowed there. We never fill in default dates on our own. When you set up a new zone we may offer typical windows as a starting point, but they apply only once you confirm them.

Set or change windows

  1. Open the zone and go to its seasons.
  2. Add, change or remove windows.
  3. Save. Residents see the change at once.

Changing a zone's status keeps its saved windows, so you can switch back later.

Seasons and closures

A closure from Status Control or an alert overrides an open season. A season never overrides another agency's closure.

Registration is closed outside the season

Residents can register only days that are open according to the seasons and alerts known at the time. A multi-day registration must fall entirely inside an open period.

Why does registration show closed?

Check, in order:

  1. The date is inside a window, in your timezone.
  2. The zone's status is seasonal (not never allowed or another status).
  3. No closure is in force, from you or an agency above you.
  4. Another agency covering the place is not closed or not set up. Any one of them can make the answer "not allowed" or "unknown".
