Alerts and how they cascade
Last updated:
An alert is a message you publish for residents, with a level and a duration. You post alerts from Status Control.
The four levels
| Level | In Status Control | Effect on burning |
|---|---|---|
| OK | Open advisory | None. Burning stays as your zones say. |
| Info | Information | None. A message only. |
| Warning | Warning | None. A message only. |
| Alert | Closure | Closes burning where it applies. |
Only a closure changes whether burning is allowed. Warnings and information never do.
How alerts cascade
If your organization has organizations under it (for example a county with fire districts):
- Information, warnings and closures flow down to every organization under yours.
- An open advisory (OK) does not flow down.
- The most restrictive answer always wins. A closure from a regional or state agency closes burning in the districts under it, and a district cannot override it with its own open status or advisory. Only the agency that posted the closure can lift it.
Durations
Choose 1 hour, 4 hours, until midnight tonight, until midnight tomorrow night, 24 hours, until further notice, or a time you choose. Midnight is in your agency's timezone, not the server's. "Until further notice" lasts until you cancel it.
Editing, cancelling and history
You can cancel an alert at any time. Cancelling ends it now; it is never deleted. Every alert you posted, changed or cancelled stays in the history with who did it and when.
